JD/Tax LLM Program

Applicants interested in the Joint JD/Tax LLM program must already be enrolled in Loyola's JD program. Current Loyola JD students may apply for admission to the Joint JD/Tax LLM program at any time before completing their second JD year.

JD students at other US law schools may apply for admission to the Joint JD/Tax LLM for Visiting Students.

Application Deadline

The application for the Summer 2026 cycle opens on Monday, September 1, 2025.
The priority application deadline is Friday, March 12, 2026
Classes begin on Monday, May 18, 2026.

Admission will continue on a rolling basis as space permits in the program after the priority deadline. Please note that first-year law students are required to submit midterm grades from their first semester with their application. We kindly ask that you wait to apply until these grades are available.

Application Requirements

The following application and PDF documents must be completed and submitted to taxllm@lls.edu to be considered for admission:

All application materials should be sent to the Office of Admissions at taxllm@lls.edu. Admission decisions are based almost exclusively on the applicant's law school performance, considering the overall rigor of the applicant's record. Applicants will be informed by email of their admission status.

Because of the intensive nature of the course (at least 30 hours total per course unit reading, studying, preparing for live sessions and any assessments, and completing course assignments during the applicable summer term), students enrolled in the intensive summer tax session may not undertake any significant competing commitments, e.g., working, taking other courses, or sitting for the bar examination, without petitioning the program to do so. Such a petition can be included in your personal statement.

Visiting Student Eligibility

Enrollment as a Visiting Student is limited to applicants who have received or are currently in the process of completing a JD program from an ABA-accredited law school.  Visiting students must have successfully completed at least the first year of law school.

Visiting students are full or part-time students as defined by their home institution. Visiting students may attend Loyola Law for no more than two semesters (excluding the summer term). Visiting and special students may not apply as transfer students. Visiting students are not eligible to transfer to Loyola Law School.

Visiting Student Application Deadline

The application deadline is Friday, March 12, 2026.  Admission decisions will begin in January and continue on a rolling basis as space permits in the program.
